JOB SUMMARY:
Company is looking for a Head of Business Development to join its digital services team working to build a best in class consumer education suite of products.

The role is an integral part of the DSS management team, and has primary responsibilities for customer acquisition and growth initiatives through strategic partnerships.
This is an exciting opportunity to own defining and executing the worldwide business development strategy.
The ideal candidate will possess both a business background that enables them to drive an engagement and interact at the Senior Leadership level, as well as an ability to easily interact with key educational leaders.
He/she should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and work cross-organizationally to build consensus.
A keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness is a must.
Your responsibilities will include helping to define key market segments to target, driving the necessary relationships with customers and partners to establish business in those market segments.
You will work closely with the product, engineering, marketing, and content teams to help them evolve the product offering and features to address opportunities and deliver real value.
While this position’s location is listed in New York, NY, we will also consider candidates based in Los Angeles, CA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a key member of the DSS leadership team in helping to drive overall market strategy Set a strategic business development plan for target markets Develop long-term strategic partnerships in support of our key markets Execute the strategic business development plan while working with key internal stakeholders (e.g.
sales teams, service teams, legal, finance, etc.) Identify specific prospects/partners to approach while communicating the specific value proposition for their business and use case Fill the business development pipeline by engaging with prospects, partners, and key customers Understand the technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings Provide thought leadership, track and share the latest trends, techniques, offerings and developments in the ed tech ecosystem Manage complex contract negotiations and liaison with the legal, finance, operations and engineering groups
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years of business development, strategic partnerships, or program/product management experience Solid negotiation skills, and business and financial acumen Strong analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to turn detailed data analysis into useful strategic insight in order to drive customer adoption and make appropriate recommendations to the business Excellent written and verbal communication skills – ability to interface with all levels of the organization, specific strength in influencing decision makers as well as setting and managing expectations; an ability to articulate and present the value proposition Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations is key Experience selling to educational organizations Experience with technology and or related fields MBA or equivalent relevant business experience Ability to travel as needed

Be particularly adept at developing strong, one-to-one relationships Possess a track record of successful negotiation Exceptional analytical skills, comfortable working with large amounts of data and communicating data findings, experience establishing and tracking program metrics including return on investment Experience identifying and resolving issues independently, will take initiative even under unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances
– solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgment Customer service orientation with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations – ability to serve multiple customers and deliver an excellent employee experience Able to quickly assimilate into an organization with the ability to energize and inspire teams and compel them to action; provide team autonomy; delegate effectively and manage performance Leads by example to gain the respect of the organization, customers and external community Ability to work collaboratively with peers on the senior leadership team Ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes Lead cross-functional stakeholders to bring opportunities to execution and implementation Working in a start-up or early stage environment where you will be defining best practice for your function
