Responsibilities
As the Vice President
– Associate General Counsel with Hines, you will report to the Chief Legal Officer and oversee the legal functions of Hines’ West Region business unit.
This includes projects located in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Utah, with responsibility for in-sourced real estate transactions and oversight of outside counsel relationships.
With support from attorneys in Hines’ Central Legal Department, you will provide pragmatic, business-minded legal solutions and negotiate and draft required legal documentation for joint ventures, acquisitions/dispositions, mortgage financings, management agreements, leases, and other similar real estate transactions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Act as lead in negotiating, drafting, and closing joint ventures, purchases and sales, management agreements, real estate loans and other transaction agreements without outside counsel support Become a trusted advisor to, and work closely with, West Region senior leadership and business generation teams Maintain company standards related to contract, corporate, joint venture and partnership matters and provide counsel to regional teams related to acquisition strategy, process, and deal structure Provide proactive legal and practical business advice to internal clients, including sound risk assessment regarding transactions Assist project teams in selecting appropriate counsel for deal work, ensure ongoing training of outside law firms with respect to Hines’ minimum contracting standards, and ensure accountability for delivery of service and cost Interface with numerous departments and functions within Hines to work effectively and provide a high-level of service to clients and business partners
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements include:
Strong academic credentials from an accredited, top tier US law school Ten or more years of transactional real estate experience at a prestigious law firm or combination of law firm and in-house real estate experience Two or more years of experience managing people Licensed to practice law in the state of California Experience selecting and managing outside counsel Highly confident, articulate, self-motivated, self-sufficient, and enthusiastic individual who is a team player Ability to travel periodically
