Flight Operations Engineering is expanding.

We are excited to offer multiple positions in Seal Beach, CA.

The selected candidates may be placed in one of the following roles: Fleet Support Engineering: Respond to Customer inquiries on subjects including Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL) and Dispatch Deviation Guide (DDG), Flight Crew Procedures (FCOM/QRH, FCTM), and Ferry Flight requests.Provide on and off hours support to Boeing?s 24hr Operations Center for ferry flight requests and other time critical Customer inquiries related to flight operations.Use resourcefulness to conduct fast-paced, high-level research into Customer inquiries.Coordinate with engineering teams and technical pilots to develop detailed responses.Document work with good technical details so that others can use this information to efficiently develop similar future Customer responses.

Airline Support Engineering: Research and respond to technical questions from Customers to resolve a wide variety of Customer flight operations issues, service problems, and continued airworthiness concerns.Investigate flight operations inquiries and develop suitable solutions for Customers.Provide proactive support to Customers on current flight operations issues through conferences, symposiums, and other methods.Provides on-site Customer assistance to assigned accounts through consultation to support the introduction of new airplane models, improve airplane utilization, and to promote the safe and efficient operation of the entire fleet.Some travel is required (approximately 10%).

Performance Training: Conduct in-class airplane performance training courses that are targeted for airplane performance engineers, flight operations engineers, dispatchers and flight crew.Demonstrate excellent presentation skills and passion for teaching.Employ superior technical comprehension and interpersonal abilities to help Customers understand the material.Research, develop, and maintain training curriculum used for pro-forma airplane performance training.Coordinate with engineering teams and Boeing technical pilots to tailor training curriculum.Some travel may be required.

Dispatch Requirements: Develop and maintain Master Minimum Equipment Lists (MMELs) and Dispatch Deviations Guides (DDGs) for all Boeing Commercial Airplane modelsUtilize knowledge of regulatory agency operating rules, airplane systems, and airplane operational performance characteristics to evaluate MMEL proposals.Collaborate with regulatory authorities and operators to ensure MMEL proposals meet compliance requirements and operational needs.Coordinate with engineering teams, technical pilots, airline Customers, FAA and foreign regulatory agencies, as well as Authorized Representatives.Coordinate development of flight operations and maintenance procedures to be included in DDGs.Author DDGs, using Adobe FrameMaker, to first-time quality and publish to a challenging schedule Airplane Flight Manual: Develop, maintain, and obtain regulatory agency approval for Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) data necessary for the safe and efficient operation of Boeing airplanesUtilize knowledge of aerodynamics, certification requirements, and commercial airline environment to prepare Airplane Flight Manuals using web-based document authoring applications.Investigate and analyze engineering databases, documents, specifications, and change papers to determine Customer airplane configurations.Coordinate review of the AFM with Engineering Unit Members (E-UMs) and regulatory agency personnel (FAA, EASA, etc) to assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Performance Software: Develop and test operational performance software applications and tools used by aircraft operators for all Boeing commercial models.

Focus on implementing aerodynamics and airplane characteristics to plan and dispatch flights.Utilize thorough understanding of aerodynamics and airplane performance to design, code, and test federation of performance software applications that provide analysis and planning of all phases of flight.Develop capabilities to automate manual calculations and to simplify complex route planning analyses.Assist in training flight operations engineers in utilization of performance software applications.Demonstrate proficiency with programming languages including JAVA, Python, C++, and FORTRAN.

Performance Database: Develop and test operational performance databases used by airline Customers to plan and dispatch flights for all Boeing commercial models.Analyze aerodynamics data and airplane characteristics to develop and test operational performance databases.Perform takeoff, landing, and enroute performance analysis utilizing Boeing Standardized Computerized Aircraft Performance (SCAP) and Enroute software.Modernize internal data structure of performance databases to meet regulatory requirements and changing industry data standards.Maintain compatibility with various software applications and tools.

Performance Data: Develop airplane performance data to be published in the Boeing Flight Crew Operations Manual (FCOM), Flight Planning and Performance Manual (FPPM), and iPad Quick Reference Handbook application (IQRH).Perform takeoff, landing, and enroute performance analysis in PC and UNIX environments .Post-process raw performance data to meet document data coverage and format requirements by utilizing custom Python, Fortran, MSExcel, Visual Basic, Matlab and Perl-script based post-processing tools.Incorporate performance data directly in the FCOM and FPPM publication systems, which are Adobe Framemaker and XML based.Develop, code, and test enhancements to post-processing tools.Assess proposed changes to aircraft certification that could impact aircraft performance.

Additionally, all Flight Operations engineers will perform, or assist in performing the following:Respond to Customer inquiries on all Boeing Commercial Airplane models.Continually champion improvements to technologies, tools and processes to enhance technological readiness, to improve aircraft performance, and to reduce cycle time and cost.Assess proposed regulations and engineering changes to determine impact on cost, performance, producibility, maintainability, and safety.Train others in work processes and work products.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):Bachelor’s degree or higher in an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

Preferred Qualification (Desired Skills / Experience):5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Typical Education/ Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.G.

Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.G.

PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience).

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
