VP of Engineering

The VP of Engineering will spearhead the next phase of our engineering development. The role manages a team of nearly a dozen engineers and others and works closely with leadership to align the team towards company goals, balancing infrastructure investments with business needs. The VP of Engineering is responsible for day-to-day delivery of the engineering team to ensure what we commit to gets done and building a great engineering culture.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, hiring, and building the Company engineering brand
  • Manage team execution with ambitious but achievable goals, inspiring a sense of urgency and expecting high standards
  • Build agility into the engineering team and culture to go after opportunities and shift priorities as needed
  • Directly contribute to development efforts to start as the product and team are built out
  • Work closely with product management, operations, and leadership to ensure engineering efforts and requirements are being utilized effectively
  • Own and drive end-to-end feature development including technical design, frontend, backend and quality control
  • Lead code reviews and troubleshoot systems issues
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience successfully managing and building engineering teams with dozens of engineers
  • Understands creating, building, and working with budgets
  • Has been at a high-growth stage private/VC-backed tech company
  • Has the technical expertise to command the respect of the team
  • Has experience managing both remote and distributed teams

Our Tech Stack

  • Our back-end is written in Ruby on Rails and we use PostgreSQL, CircleCI and Heroku Pipelines, as well as infrastructure such as AWS ec2 and s3
  • Our front-end is JavaScript and HTML5/CSS3
  • Our mobile front-end is an iOS app written in Flutter
  • The team is managed in an agile fashion, we use Jira for roadmap management and story-driven development, and we deploy to production multiple times per week
