Essential Job Functions

POSITION OVERVIEW

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Pro Bono Coordinator. This individual will support the firm’s pro bono initiatives, working with our New York and Firmwide Pro Bono team. This is a non-exempt position, reporting to the global director of pro bono and supporting the New York and Firmwide pro bono practice.

The Pro Bono Coordinator will work closely with the pro bono team to assist in helping attorneys find meaningful pro bono work that interests them. Primary responsibilities include, interacting with legal service organizations and nonprofits to solicit or bid for new matters, determining capacity and interests of attorneys in the New York office (and elsewhere, at times), communication with partner coordinators regarding program goals, assisting with high-volume projects, and otherwise supporting the pro bono program.

  • Act as liaison with partner organizations relating to matter bids, intake, staffing, and status updates
  • Assist in re-staffing matters following transitions
  • Identifying subject matter expertise around the firm
  • Administrate staffing on high-volume matters such as fifty-state research surveys, clinics, and other admin-heavy projects
  • Enhance and maintain pro bono databases and tracking systems
  • Serve as an information source for pro bono trainings, clinics, and opportunities
  • Communicate regularly with practice coordinators regarding participation
  • Nurture and develop relationships with partner legal service organizations
  • Additional duties as needed

Education, Work Experience, Skills

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible and adaptable, possess excellent proofreading and communication skills, have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, be able to meet concrete deadlines, have a can-do attitude, and be a solid team player.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate with attorneys at all levels of the Firm effectively and appropriately.
  • Client service orientation
  • Sound independent judgment
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential information
  • Aptitude at maintaining positive relationships
  • Familiarity with standard office technology applications such as the Microsoft suite of products
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software programs
  • Ability to understand general principles involved in knowledge-management database use and maintenance
  • Minimum of three (3) years of law firm or similar experience in a professional services environment
  • Spanish aptitude would be a plus, but is not required.
  • Prior experience with either an active immigration or nonprofit governance practice would be a plus.
