This role reports to the SVP of Engineering at Synapse Group, a Meredith company.

Role and Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)

  • Build some amazing things, learn, have fun
  • Leverage your technical expertise to constantly raise the bar and ensure your team delivers extraordinary results – focusing on creating value, continuous improvement and collaboration
  • Partner with engineers, product, and project managers to define the vision, strategy and roadmap
  • Strive to thoroughly understand customer, business, engineering, and stakeholders needs to provide effective solutions to meet those needs via analytical and data-driven approaches
  • Dive deep into tech, helping with architecture, design, and best practices via mentoring, coaching, and hands-on
  • Build real and effective partnerships between your teams and others throughout the company
  • Collaborate with tech leaders to create and implement tech strategy by keeping up to date with tech industry trends and best practices
  • Ensure excellent software development processes using Agile best practices
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and work across a broad range of technologies
  • Hire, coach, enable, and retain an exceptional group of engineers

Professional Qualifications (What You Have)

  • You have 12+ years of hands-on full-stack software development experience with deep understanding of architecture and design
  • You have 5+ years of management and leadership experience with high performing teams
  • You develop, coach and provide opportunities to people, and have demonstrated the ability to do so
  • You care deeply about your team, customers, architecture, design, quality, and all the little details
  • You listen, communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, and provide solutions with actionable plans
  • You know most of these technologies and are eager to learn the rest quickly as needed – Ruby / Rails, Postgres or equiv database, React, Redux, JavaScript, Heroku, Node, iOS (Swift), Android (Java / Kotlin), Alexa, Firebase, GraphQL, AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, etc), Cloudflare
  • You know most of these tools and are eager to learn the rest quickly as needed – GitHub, Amplitude, Data Studio, Google Analytics, Braze, AppsFlyer, Contentful
  • You have extensive experience delivering products in an Agile environment (Scrum / Kanban)
  • B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent degree or work experience)
