Security Officer (Unarmed)

SECURITY OFFICER – FACILITIES

SUMMARY

Under the direction of Facilities Manager and Security Supervisor, the Security Officer is responsible for providing a work atmosphere that is conducive to protecting the staff and facility from theft and vandalism. The Security Officer will patrol primases, oversee a fixed post, and perform other activities to ensure compliance with OIC’s security policy and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides post coverage, patrols areas on foot, checking for fires, vandalism, suspicious activity or persons or safety/fire hazards.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrence.
  • Responds to facility emergencies and incidents, as needed or when directed.
  • Checks doors and windows throughout facility to assure they are tightly closed and locked after cleaning crew has left the premises, notes in written log any unlocked doors/windows submit information to Facility Manager.
  • Assures that all emergency exit doors are active and in working order.
  • Interprets applicable policies and procedures based on existing circumstances.
  • Locks all buildings (Outpatient Medical Center and Lowman Building) loading dock, pedestrian gate for access to the facility after hours.
  • Locks the Playground and adjoining restrooms.
  • Uses Security Cell phone to stay in touch with follow officers and other security personnel.
  • Controls traffic daily if necessary and during events.
  • Performs any necessary block offs of the campus as needed.
  • Escorts individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection upon request.
  • Upon request, responsible for patient transports.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • May be required to work overtime without advance notice.
  • May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area.
  • Performs other duties or tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or G.E.D required.
  • Security Guard Card.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Two to five (2-5) years of related experience required.
  • Previous experience in security or law enforcement field is desirable.
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background verification, reference checks and pre-employment physical in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements.
  • Good grooming and character; good physical and mental health, courteous.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Security Officer works a variable shift schedules including morning, evening, night, weekends and holidays.

  • Must be willing and able to meet demanding attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Wiliness and ability to work variable schedules and rotate between shift as needed on weekends and or to cover other shifts is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.

  • Investigate and report suspicious activities and/or circumstances
  • Conduct armed stationary, foot and/or vehicle patrol (interior and/or exterior)
  • Perform armed security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle
  • Provide a highly visible physical security presence
  • Manage security incidents and hazards
  • Maintain periodic qualification of armed response, physical fitness and weapon requirements/li
  • Note any security, safety or fire hazards
  • Inspect security control logs and take action
  • Provide security and safety for personnel, property, facilities, and assets
