Major Duties
Under general supervision of an RN III, RNP, or MD, the Triage Nurse coordinates triage operations of the Klotz Student Health Center (SHC) through the application of specialized skills acquired through experience in triage settings. The incumbent assesses signs and symptoms of illness, takes vital signs and enters them in the EHR, develops a nursing diagnosis and assesses the critical nature of a patient condition and triages patients to the appropriate provider, including making an appointment with a Provider for the patient or calling the Urgent Care Provider to examine the patient STAT.
Assists providers with examinations, coordination, and counseling, and treatments as authorized, including through verbal orders and MD/NP protocols.
Implements the delivery of a nursing plan of care for patients that includes follow-up treatments as requested and interprets or explains treatments to students.
Provides immunizations as per protocol and standing orders.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from high school plus completion of a professional nursing program in an approved school of nursing or by additional preparation as approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Bachelor of Science of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Equivalent to one year of full-time professional nursing experience which has provided evidence of the ability to work independently in specialized nursing activities. Intravenous (IV) skills preferred.
Possess and maintain a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
Possess and maintain Certification in CPR/AED.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; medical supplies and equipment used in nursing practice; and the uses and effects of medications and narcotics.
Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing and the scope of practice limitations of clinic support staff.
Specialized knowledge of triage and assessment, patient counseling, and staffing specialized nursing clinics. Knowledge of clinic operations and the development and implementation of a nursing program, including procedures and protocols.
Ability and specialized skills to effectively apply nursing knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques and skills in performing nursing duties; accurately observe and record symptoms, behaviors, and reactions to treatments in order to make a nursing diagnosis; respond with therapy to treatment reactions.
Use applicable health center automated systems to perform duties and maintain records and prepare reports; gain the cooperation of patients; analyze emergency situations and take prompt action; maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds; effectively apply specialized triage nursing skills.
Use and/or learn to use specialized equipment within the Health Center which includes an EKG machine; insert, monitor, and remove IVs; provide injections and PPD testing, Spot Monitor BP, Pulse Oximeter, Nebulizer and Spirometer.

Classification: 8154 / Registered Nurse II
The salary range for this classification is: $4083 -$7878 per month. The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4083 -$6000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
TEMP: This is a Temporary-renewable position, end date to be determined.
