Overview:
Employee Health License Vocational Nurse coordinator, performs duties within his/her scope of practice under the direction of healthcare provider for the coordination and implementation of the annual screening, vaccination administration, new employee physicals, related health activities, and employee health and wellness programs.
Responsibilities:
- Provides excellent customer service at all times, to internal and external customers.
- Determines specific needs of the Employee Health Department and prepares area with appropriate supplies, and equipment, specific to Employee Health.
- Interviews employees, reviews employees charts and/or electronic medical health records to determine prior visits to the clinic, history, status of follow-up on healthcare provider orders and definition of problems.
- Refers defined employee needs to healthcare provider, based on Employee Health Department provider recommendations.
- Instructs employee on follow-up care.
- Evaluates charts of employees who failed clinic appointments to determine urgency of follow-up care, contacts supervisor when necessary and reviews with staff the plan for follow-up appointments.
- Documents services provided in the Employee Health related activities, screening or vaccinations (e.g. medication, immunization records, PPD, N95, blood draws etc.)
- Responsible for collecting data from “walk-in” or “phone-in” employees and follows provider orders as directed.
- Performs, observes, and records symptoms, interactions and progress of the employee and reports findings to the healthcare provider.
- Does not make independent medical or healthcare decisions.
- Placements of PPD’s, interpretation and reporting, vaccination administration for new and existing employees, documenting in electronic medical record.
- LVN, acting under the direction of a health care provider may perform (1) TB skin test, and (2) immunization techniques, providing such administration is upon standing orders of a health care provider, or pursuant to written guidelines adopted by Employee Health Department.
- The LVN will satisfactorily demonstrate competence in the administration of immunizing agents including knowledge of all indication and contraindication for the administration of such agents, and in recognition and treatment of any emergency reaction to such agents which constitute a danger to the health or life of the employee receiving the immunization
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and dispatching them for analysis and testing.
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Coordination of employee health records between clinics, Employee Health department, and Human Resources.
- Maintains confidentiality of AltaMed employees and adheres to HIPAA standards.
- Assist in preparation of planned and unplanned audits specific to Employee Health and in collaboration with clinical nurse supervisors at each clinical site.
- Coordinates x-rays, and referral forms for findings on screening or physical exams.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited LVN school.
- Current LVN license issued by the State of California Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
- Must maintain current CPR/First Aid training.
- Experience and knowledge regarding the physical, mental and social needs of the employees.
- Working knowledge of Employee Health Department or ambulatory care for greater than two years.
- Knowledgeable use of NextGen or other forms of electronic record
