The Los Angeles Production Manager is a member of the Operations Leadership Team and the Food Safety Team, and is responsible for the overall leadership and operation of Intelligentsia’s LA roasting and warehouse facilities. Specific areas of responsibility include labeling, blending, packaging, order fulfillment, logistics, shipping, facility maintenance, permitting, and general operations duties. This role is accountable for the development and achievement of monthly, annual and long term strategic plans as well as continuous improvement initiatives related to people/team development, safety, quality, cost, working capital, waste, and environmental management. This role oversees direct reports in a variety of roles and may include indirect reports.Duties & Responsibilities* Direct responsibility for day-to-day operation of LA’s roast-to-order production and distribution facilities.* Oversee all decisions related to LA facility operations including, but not limited to inventory levels, warehouse space, packaging and physical distribution of coffee.* Ensure all production plant equipment is operating to safety and production standards.* Ensure that, as the company grows, LA manufacturing capabilities meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for cost, quality, and responsiveness.* Partner with the Director of Operations in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures and other process improvements to improve quality, food and worker safety, and operating efficiency.* Maintain effective relationships with all local, state and regional regulating institutions.* Develop and implement strategies, processes, and organizational capacity building programs to drive maximum quality and safety and to achieve the lowest total delivered costs.* Prepare and manage LA location budgets, targets, and goals and ensure direct reports have appropriate information and resources needed to be accountable for results.* Responsible for cost, efficiency, waste, quality, safety and environmental management for LA roasting plant operations.* Ensure compliance with all regulatory and certification schemes including but not limited to SCAQMD, federal, state, and local regulations, organic certification, and SQF/3rd party Food Safety programs.* Manage, coach and develop team in setting and achieving operating, customer satisfaction, and people development goals.* Manage all HR-related activities for direct reports, which includes: Hiring and firing, Performance reviews, Staff development, Overseeing production vs. vacation schedules, Various employee-related issues that may arise* Create organizational bench strength through personal development plans, succession planning, and performance coaching.* Work closely with the Operations Leadership Team on manufacturing plans, goals, and future product innovation.* Other duties as assigned.Education and/or Experience* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required* Management experience required, preferably within a manufacturing leadership role.* CPG products experience with food and beverage background including strong familiarity with food safety programs strongly preferred.* Experience driving formal Lean/Continuous Improvement programs strongly preferred.* Ability to proactively manage multiple projects in a fast paced, change-oriented environment.* Good working knowledge of time study methods, work measurements metrics, productivity tracking and data collection systems including but not limited to Netsuite ERP system, Microsoft Office, and G Suite.Qualifications* Accomplished team leader and coach with history of helping others achieve their potential.* Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of financial data, measurements and planning.* Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers.* Detail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solving.* Approachable and skilled at building rapport with a diverse team.* Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentational skills.* Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.* General computer proficiency.Language Skills* Ability to read and speak English proficiently.Physical Demands* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear.* The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.* At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.* Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).* Occasional travel required.Work Environment* Office and warehouse environment.* The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
