InSite Chemist- Hazardous Waste Tech (Floater-multiple L.A. sites)

  • Insite hazmat tech- floating multiple sites throughout L.A. 
  • $25-$28 p/hr
  • Working on site in LA at customer sites packing haz waste
  • Monday-Friday 5AM – 1:30PM occasional OT; steady 8 hrs of work a day
  • Floaters start time 5AM could start on client site of from CH office
  • Customer service experience
  • Floaters might drive company vehicles- Light duty is required- must have clean driving record. 
  • Day in a life- between 1-3 sites a day. All in LA. 
  • Sunset, Baldwin Park Medical Center, West LA Medical Center, Panorama City. 
  • Typically, on one site all day. 
  • Day in a life: collection, segregation of haz hospital waste—needles, expired meds, chemo drugs, IV bags, arsenic, solvents
  • Respirator- shaved facial hair. 
  • Shipment days- assist the truck drivers’ w/ identification. 
  • Packing on site- then one of our Clean Harbors drivers collects packed haz waste
  • Vaccines required on sites: Hep B, MMR, varicella vaccine, flu shot 
  • Must pass a physical/drug test 

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

 
Tasks
• Make waste pickups at labs as needed. 
• Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restrictions notifications.
• Identify unknown laboratory chemicals when they are encountered.
• Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.
• Inspect storage area for leaks or spills. 
• Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations. 
• Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance. 
• Sampling and profiling of new waste streams or any wastes needing analytical testing. 
• Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork. 
• Utilize CHOICE waste management software to efficiently and accurately manage waste program. 
• Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal. 
• Maintain and manage waste profile data.
• Evaluate specialty waste materials such as gas cylinders and potentially explosive compounds and determine disposal options.

Required                              Clean Driving record, for the purposes of CHESI employment, includes: No more than 2 moving                                                     violations in the past 3 years No DUI/DWI in past 3 years No preventable accidents in the past year                                               No more than 2 preventable accidents in the last 3 years No serious moving violations in past 3                                                     years, i.e., Reckless driving, Driving to endanger, Open alcohol containers, etc.

• Proficiency in Windows based applications. 
Travel
10% – 25%-paid travel time
 
Respirator Requirement- no facial hair- must wear respirators on some sites.

 • Requires lifting, carrying, grasping, speaking and listening. 
 • Requires sitting, standing, walking, puling and/or pushing, stooping and crouching. 
 • Requires climbing, determining color and smelling.
