Director of Finance

Responsibilities:

MV Transportation is seeking a Director of Finance to provide financial leadership, support, and guidance in a multi-divisional environment to his/her assigned region.  The Director of Finance reports on a direct line to the Assistant Corporate Controller and on a dotted line to the Senior Vice President of Operations for the region. He/she will have full responsibility for all financial matters at operating sites in the region, and will be responsible for billing clients, paying employees, and closing the books monthly, accurately, and timely. Additionally, he/she will have oversight responsibility for fareboxes, where applicable, and safeguarding assets such as vehicles, fuel, and parts inventory. He/she must meet internal and external financial reporting requirements which include variance analyses versus budget and prior year.  A key aspect of the role is providing decision support to the SVP in matters such as client rate and union negotiations.   

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Oversight of the monthly financial close of Region. 
  • Provide decision support to the SVP of Operations for client and union negotiations. 
  • Perform operational and financial analysis within business units and present findings as well as recommendations to Managers. 
  • Develop and implement operational and financial controls to achieve business objectives. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to the regional team to assist in improving operational and financial performance. 
  • Assist in streamlining business processes at the business unit level to achieve business goals. 
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of annual budgets and forecasts. 
  • Work closely with Internal Audit, as needed, to investigate and correct operational and financial issues. 
  • Assist the SVP of Operations in preparation for monthly operation reviews. 
  • Prepare internal reporting package including operating metrics, financial controls and performance indicators that will help in improving business performance. 
  • Ensure business operations are in compliance with financial related company policies and best practices. 
  • Assigns and supervises the work of subordinates. 
  • Has responsibility for employee evaluations and for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, and/or disciplining of employees. 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, or a closely related field. Additional related work experience may, at the sole discretion of the company, be considered in lieu of the stated educational requirement. 
  • MBA/CPA, a definite plus. 

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Must have at least five (5) to seven (7) years’ financial accounting or analyst experience. 
  • Must have Controller and/or Accounting Supervisor experience. 
  • Must maintain a sound level of internal control. 
  • Able to work independently and with exceptional communication skills. 
  • Transportation experience a plus! 
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures used in budgeting/forecasting, accounting, internal auditing, program evaluation, and financial and managerial reporting. 
  • Knowledge of the preparation of involved and detailed accounting and other financial reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. 
  • Must have a strong understanding of field operations to provide input to fiscally strengthen operating sites and troubleshoot problems. 
  • Ability to utilize principles, methods, techniques, and systems of financial management. 
  • Ability to assist in developing, applying, and adjusting financial plans and policies to attain objectives. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management. 
  • Ability to apply sound, independent judgment in the solutions of financial problems and in the administration of financial programs. 
  • Ability to make oral and written presentations in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Ability to learn to utilize various types of automated systems and/or manual tools used by the company. 
  • Position may include frequent travel. 

Starting salary range: $102,995 – $122,995
