Senior Staff Accountant / Junior Controller – Private Family Office

Our client, a top private family office with a robust real estate portfolio is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support their family office accounting team. This is a small but busy group that works collaboratively and manages the financial assets of a growing family office in West Los Angeles.

You will work collaboratively with our finance and accounting team to help support the AP/AR process, execute on expense approvals, facilitate reimbursements and the reconciliation process as well as support the month-end close process for our accounts.

You must be highly accurate, detail-oriented, and proactive in all work; ideally with a minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience in real estate, private family office, or finance. We are looking for someone meticulous, thoughtful, and seeking a long-term position.

Job responsibilities:

  1. Directly support Finance and Accounting on all matters related to the financial records for the family’s real estate holdings and projects, property acquisitions, disposals, developments, and rental income, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions.
  2. Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports related to the portfolio, providing insights and recommendations to support effective decision-making by the family office team.
  3. Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes for the portfolio, providing financial analysis and support to optimize investment decisions and maximize returns.
  4. Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts, ensuring accuracy and transparency in financial reporting.
  5. Assist in the preparation of tax documentation and reports related to real estate holdings, working closely with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations.
  6. Utilize accounting software and tools to streamline accounting processes and maintain organized financial records.
  7. Handle ad-hoc financial tasks and special projects related to the portfolio as assigned by the management.
  • Help support the team with multiple initiatives and projects across operations and accounting
  • Assist with operational reporting, month end close and various financial documents
  • Address and resolve queries in timely and accurate manner

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  2. Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  3. Proficiency in using accounting software such as Excel, and other relevant financial management tools.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze real estate and other financial data effectively.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting.
  7. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a dynamic work environment.
  8. High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  9. Experience with AppFolio a plus, but not required

Salary is DOE – 90K-110K base plus bonus, 100% covered health benefits
