Bar Manager

STAY Zero Proof Lounge, L.A.’s pioneering new non-alcoholic bar, located in Chinatown, is actively seeking an experienced Beverage Manager/Lead Bartender to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the beverage scene by showcasing exceptional non-alcoholic cocktails and beverages and plant-based snacks. 

This is a full-time exempt position and requires a full-time commitment working on the busiest evenings including Fridays and Saturdays.

Essential Functions:

• Stand, sit, bend, kneel, and navigate stairs.  
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., at a time
• Read, write, and speak fluent English – other languages a plus
• Tolerate cold and warm temperatures

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in creating and executing specialty cocktails and food menus for STAY.
• Collaborate in ongoing research and development of specialty cocktails and cocktail ingredients in coordination with ownership.
• Provide mentorship to bartenders and lead beverage educational initiatives.
• Participate in ingredient selection, menu creation, and standardized classic cocktail recipes, including non-alcoholic beer and wine selection.
• Contribute to selecting glassware and bar-related equipment to enhance the overall guest experience.
• Train and manage bar personnel, oversee schedules, and ensure adequate staffing for all bar-related activities and events.
• Manage and control bar labor costs effectively.
• Assist in the creation of bar program training materials and reference guides for all staff.
• Stay updated on changing prices and efficiently manage menu updates and cost planning.
• Conduct monthly inventory of all non-alcoholic spirits, beer, and wine, while ensuring proper bar equipment operation and maintenance.
• Uphold safety and sanitation standards behind bars, ensuring a clean and organized workspace.
• Bartend assigned shifts, ensuring impeccable service standards.
• Represent STAY at special and media-related events when requested, contributing to the establishment’s overall success.
• Directly supervise bar personnel, actively participating in hiring, scheduling, corrective discipline, performance reviews, and pay increases in alignment with ownership.
• Engage in weekly management meetings and carry out other administrative duties as assigned.
• Dedicate efforts to enhance the overall success of STAY, taking on additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum five years of bartending experience, with at least two years of managerial experience in a craft cocktail bar or high-end restaurant bar featuring craft cocktails.
• Proficiency in non-alcoholic cocktail creation and familiarity with non-alcoholic beers, wines, and spirits.
• Strong background in staff training, scheduling, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and experience with POS (Point of Sale) systems.
• Experience with administrative bar duties.
• Knowledge of computer programs and utilization of Google Workspace for communication.
• Possess an outgoing, warm personality, passion for innovation, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences and hospitality in a zero-proof lounge setting.
• Ability to remain calm and provide solid leadership in stressful situations.
