Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking a Survivability Systems Engineer/Scientist (level 3, 4, or 5) to join the team in El Segundo, CA. The Survivability Systems Engineer/Scientist supports multidisciplinary survivability tasks through all satellite program phases.
Responsibilities:

Execute and oversee the Monte Carlo modeling of radiation transport through large systems in space, terrestrial or strategic radiation environments.

Interface effectively with all technical disciplines in a team environment to trade factors such as survivability, cost, weight and technical risk in arriving at the final design.

Ensure that unit and system level designs appropriately consider radiation-related effects such as total dose (to include ELDRS and dose rate effects), displacement damage, single event effects, internal charging.

Perform and document unit and vehicle level analyses. Plan and conduct testing at the piecepart, slice, unit, and vehicle levels to support design and verify compliance with radiation-related requirements.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in an engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
-
Experience with space environmental effects, high energy charged particle environments, particle-in-cell and molecular flow models, and statistical treatment of data
-
Experience with radiation transport codes (i.e. Geant4, MCNPx, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Experience with executing and optimizing radiation transport code on High Performance Computing Clusters or distributed computing systems
-
Experience with spacecraft design, fabrication and test

Experience with C++ programming, python and software tools such as MatLab, MathCAD, PSPICE, and/or CRÈME

Working knowledge of ASIC and FPGA/microprocessor function and programming

Experience with operation of electrical test equipment such as digitizing oscilloscopes, spectrum and network analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, etc.
Typical Education/Experience:
Experienced, Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Lead, Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Senior, Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Travel:
This position requires the ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 – $141,450
Summary Pay Range (Lead, Leve 4): $128,350 – $173,650
Summary Pay Range (Senior, Level 5): $157,250 – $212,750
