As the Executive Director of Hillel at UCLA, you are the organization’s visionary leader, mobilizing a staff of 16+ professionals and managing a budget of $2.7M. You are passionate about dynamically engaging, supporting, and developing future leaders of the Jewish community. You lead an incredible team, set the strategic vision, develop human and financial resources, and strengthen the ties between Hillel and the greater Jewish and university communities. You have a pulse on the needs of today’s students and connect with local and national stakeholders to continue to broaden organizational reach and impact.

Hillel at UCLA is the center of Jewish life at UCLA and plays an important role in Jewish life for the wider Los Angeles community. It is one of the most prominent Hillels in the country and hosts more than 2,000 students every year. It endeavors to be a welcoming, uplifting, lively, and insistently pluralistic home for students at UCLA to be both supported and challenged as they progress through their most formative years.As the Executive Director of Hillel at UCLA, you lead a team working to ensure Jewish life is open, non-judgmental, and life-changing.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision & Leadership:

  • Be the chief executive of Hillel at UCLA. Lead the overall strategic vision and identify priorities for the organization that match the exceptional caliber of Hillel at UCLA and its community.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, university staff, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles to strategically enhance Hillel at UCLA’s mission.
  • Advocate on behalf of students, faculty and staff when issues of antisemitism or anti-Israel events arise, and proactively maintain a supportive climate on campus for Jewish students.
  • Speak on behalf of our students, faculty and staff when issues of antisemitism or Anti-Israel events arise, as well as proactively maintaining a supportive climate on campus for Jewish students throughout the state.
  • Be the primary spokesperson and public presence of Hillel at UCLA in the media, Los Angeles Jewish community, and at events.

Fundraising & Financial Management:

  • Create, drive and oversee a fundraising strategy that leverages the local and national network of community members, alumni and parents to support Hillel at UCLA.
  • Develop and implement a robust multi-faceted development plan in partnership with a professional fundraising team, including an annual campaign and a $30M endowment campaign.
  • Personally engage in fundraising with major donors and grant organizations as well as develop additional and innovative revenue sources.
  • Manage a $2.7M annual budget and ensure the fiscal integrity of the organization including maximum resource utilization and a net positive financial position.

Staff Supervision & Development:

  • Inspire, develop, supervise, and mentor a professional staff team that delivers on a vision of passion for Jewish life, pluralism,inclusivity, and student leadership development in order to deepen students’ relationships to Jewish life,Jewish learning and Israel.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure success at every level of the organization including student life and the arts, finance and fundraising, operations and facilities.
  • Establish a culture of professional development and growth.

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Exhibit organizational and communal leadership by cultivating relationships with all stakeholders,including student and university leaders, Jewish community leaders in Los Angeles andbeyond, as well as alumni and parents across the country.
  • Create a culture of shared responsibility and engagement among members of the board of directors and cultivate relationships with prospective board members who can provide generative and strategic leadership.

Student Engagement & Leadership Development:

  • Ensure the student engagement strategy is dynamic, inclusive and successful in meeting its goals to support the diverse student body.
  • Develop high level opportunities for select students for stewardship, leadership development, and organizational input.
  • Have your pulse on the changing needs of Jewish college students, Jewish identity development and the campus climate.

  • Solid organizational skills, including planning, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit with proven fundraising and financial management skills.
  • A nuanced understanding of Judaism, Israel and antisemitism in a way that is approachable and meets students at various points in their personal Jewish journey.

Your Past Experience:

  • Led organizations or programs with a proven and measurabletrack record of innovation and sustainable growth.
  • Managed and supervised a diverse team of professionals in an exemplary manner to accomplish their best work and develop theirpotential.
  • Proven track record working with and supporting pluralistic and diverse communities.
  • Experience in successfully partnering with a non-profit Board of Directors, charitable foundations and grant issuing organizations.
  • Demonstrated financial literacy and management skills
  • Personal fundraising experience including executing annual fundraising campaigns, cultivation, stewardship, and major gift solicitation.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $190,00-$230,000 depending upon skills, qualifications, and experience.
