AeroTEC is currently seeking a talented Group Lead
– Stress Engineering to join our team.

AeroTEC’s Engineering Services Division supports and provides comprehensive, full-service aerospace engineering services to customers in aircraft design and certification.

The Engineering Services Department is responsible for providing engineering consulting services related to aircraft performance, similarity analysis, reviewing and supporting certification activities, determining test requirements, and planning and documenting testing to meet customer needs.

The Engineering Services Department provides several areas of expertise in Flight Sciences, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Powerplant & FIFA, Air Systems, Cabin Safety, Structures and Liaison Engineering.

The Group Lead
– Stress Engineering is responsible to lead a team (or teams) of stress analysis engineers in order to deliver the assigned engineering project or functional objectives on schedule, within budget and to the defined technical requirements.

The Stress Group Lead is expected to have significant relevant experience gained within the field of stress analysis resulting in a good understanding of the discipline and able to both technically and functionally guide his direct reports.

The Group Lead
– Stress Engineering may also be used in a project specific role to guide/direct program stress analysis team(s) in order to ensure consistent approaches and methods for the function are used across the program(s).

A Stress Group Lead is a permanent role within the standard organizational structure and leads a team of stress analysis engineers functionally and operationally.

The role is accountable for the performance of the team(s) under their control.

They also oversee and monitor functional activities within the program/team, independently review deliverables and assisting assigned Project Leaders to manage program technical risk.

They are also expected to provide specialized technical knowledge and expertise in support of the program (s).

The Stress Group Lead reports hierarchically and functionally/Operationally to the Engineering Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Lead team(s) of stress analysis engineers to deliver the assigned tasks to achieve the program/project objectives through planning, work tasking, and execution of required engineering activities.

Provide technical functional oversight for engineering design solutions, ensuring compliance with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.

Develop and implement methods, toolsets and solutions that are appropriate and compliant to achieve the design and program/project objectives.

Provide functional review and support of generated bids and proposals within assigned programs/projects.

Assess, manage, and mitigate overall technical risk within assigned programs.

Review test specifications/plans and/or alternate means of compliance as required to demonstrate design solution complies with certification requirements.

Create engineering designs and verify design compliance to defined requirements including dimensions, materials, parts, process notes, assemblies.

Generate, check, or approve all assigned project deliverables, documents, and reports as required within limits of signature authorizations.

Provide an independent check for release of technical documentation as required.

Implement training and capability strategies to manage training, mentoring, and development of engineers within assigned programs/projects including technical signatories.

Support technical and customer discussions and reviews, including formal gate reviews, the creation and preparation of technical data and presentations.

Process and verify concessions and remedial activity and provide technical support by implementing solutions to address non-conforming products and designs, as required.

Implement a lean continuous improvement culture and strategy within the program/project team(s).

Establish and implement knowledge management strategies for the program/project team(s).

Support the development and maintenance of functional work instructions, procedures, technical manuals, and guidelines.

Manage the overall performance, engagement, and capability development of the program/project team through the management of performance development plans, training, mentoring, and other initiatives.

Provide key performance indicators for program activities to drive continuous improvement and provide updates / reports, and standard measures to the senior management team, as required.

Create a positive workplace environment within the program through regular meetings, engagement & coaching.

Must possess a high level of engineering functional knowledge and awareness of other disciplines in order to successfully manage/guide the project/program technical team.

Must possess an awareness of business expertise especially in the Aerospace industry and in the product area the project/program is responsible for.

Must possess a high level of leadership ability as the role is accountable for the competing parameters of technical quality (Safety/Airworthiness) as well as project schedule and cost adherence for the technical activities.

Must possess a high level of problem-solving skills to successfully manage the technical direction of the projects.

Level Requirements (Minimum): Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent working and thinking Level gained through experience.

Experience: 10 or more years of relevant experience in performing structural analysis in Primary and secondary structure (Metallic and composite).

Experience with free-body diagrams and classical stress analysis techniques.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills Minimum 3 years’ experience with Damage Tolerance and Fatigue Analysis on both Metallic and Composites.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in leading a team of Stress Engineers or IPT team.

Excellent computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Established links with external (engineering) bodies such as Technical Institutes, Universities, ASD, SAE, RAS, EASA, or similar technical bodies.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel (flying and driving) to various domestic and international worksites and client offices are required.

Frequent travel required to the Moses Lake Facility for extended periods of time during scheduled flight test operations.
