Onward Play is searching for a Senior Environment Artist to join our clients team! As a Senior Environment Artist, you’ll be sculpting organic assets, arrange and build levels for the gameplay space. You’ll be responsible for creating materials and focus on enhancing the gameplay space through interesting Lighting techniques that hit the visual target.
Responsibilities:
- Skilled at leading the players eye, utilizing visual hierarchies and strong instinct on where to let the player’s eye rest
- Knowledgeable in a wide variety of architectural styles (Vernacular, Romanesque, Googie etc.)
- Well versed in Unreal 4, Unreal 5 knowledge a plus
- Skilled at making environments performant
- Comfortable in a variety of tools such as Maya or 3DS Max, Z-Brush, Substance etc. Insight for when to use which tool for the desired effect
- Flexibility with art techniques involving next gen PBR materials to contribute to a unique visual style for environments
- Partnering with other artists, designers, and tech artists to collaborate on creative solutions to solve complex character pipeline problems to bring these assets to life
- Solving problems, and you happily adjust to various needs for prototyping early in the development process
- Have artistic persistence and good time management habits to meet project deadlines defined by the Art Director
- Collaborate with Internal and external vendors to make sure product goals are fulfilled and working practices are appropriate
- Use a flexible approach and drive rapid iteration while setting stylistic and visual standards for the animation process in pre-production
Skill Requirements:
- 8+ years of professional experience in the game/film industry as an Environment Artist focusing on lighting, materials, sculpting organic assets and world building
- Solid technical background with ability to design and implement systems
- Experience with physically based shader texture sets and pipelines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Experienced setting up real time lighting and can recommend strong lighting strategies
- Practiced in strong color theory
- Strong Modeling skills in multiple environments
- UV & texturing skills within multiple techniques
- World building and level flow informed by player experience and storytelling
- Must be able to pull all the above into a compelling result that enhances the game for players in an immersive experience
