In this pivotal role, the Director of R&D Global Medical Learning & Performance will support the development, implementation, and assessment of the learning and performance strategy under Learning for Performance 360 for the global R&D Medical teams.
Leads the implementation and evaluation of the medical learning & performance strategy as aligned with the Learning for Performance 360 framework in partnership with the GL&P R&D team and other cross-functional entities, ensuring continuous performance and process improvement Accountable for the direction, strategy, and delivery of impactful, innovative, and relevant state/pipeline medical training for Global Medical Field Teams and Global Medical Guides the development and delivery of professional skills and medical capabilities trainings for Global Medical R&D Guarantees conduct of medical learning & performance activities are in full compliance with all laws, regulations, and SOPs Uses data to assess the impact and alignment of all TA and professional skills training to ensure alignment with Global Medical Field Teams business needs and relevant brand strategy, informing the practice of medicine Remains current and understands the relationship between the Medical Field Teams and the external healthcare community, including interactions with KOLs, payers, and societies for scientific exchange Ensures team has a timely understanding of competitor scientific activity and its implication to the overall treatment landscape and scientific narratives; Communicates internally up-to-date scientific data including recent publications, FAQs, presentations, study-specific information, and scientific statements, updating Global Medical and Global Medical Field Teams as needed In collaboration with Global Medical R&D, develops and evaluates materials required at symposia, provides medical accuracy review of materials, and liaises with cross-functional teams, including Medical Communications and Global Medical Affairs Determines the scientific/medical subject matter appropriateness of labels/regulatory/reimbursement/policy/promotional and medical deliverables (e.g., slide decks, publications, educational activities) used to support internal learning needs Partners with Global Regulatory Affairs and Safety (GRAAS) in product risk management, ensuring communication of the risk implications to Global Medical Field Teams.
Synthesizes and integrates data insights to deliver medical inputs into relevant cross-regional/functional learning strategies Initiates and develops a system to partner with cross-functional enterprise-wide teams for knowledge exchange of global medical learning opportunities Ensures TA training Asset Leads and Global Medical Teams have opportunities for professional and personal skills development Has a working knowledge of the end-to-end discovery to market process Serves as a medical representative in relevant leadership, governance, and cross-functional teams Leads with an agile, inclusive, and distributed decision-making strategy using evidence and applying judgment to balance pace, rigor, and risk Develop and enhances visibility and collaboration across all medical functions Committed to delivering high-quality results, overcoming challenges, and focusing on what matters, implementation, while building resilience in teams Understands and grows knowledge of budgeting and forecasting, business, and financial foresight Champions Amgens reputation as a science-based, innovative, and patient-focused reliable partner Up to 30% of travel Win What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.
Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience OR Masters degree and 8 years of experience OR Bachelors degree and 10 years of experience AND 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources Preferred Qualifications: Advance degree: PhD, PharmD, or advanced scientific or health degree (MS, MPH), or MD 5 years’ experience working in the pharmaceutical or medical field 5 years developing innovative medical education tools and material for field medical and internal medical teams 5 years experience managing large teams 2 years of quality and risk management experience General clinical and disease knowledge base for Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Bone, Inflammation, or Cardiovascular disease states Experience in creating digital platforms Experience with the development of slide decks and other scientific content Experience with medical education meetings and digital/social medical delivery Experience leading and working within cross-functional teams Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously 2 years of clinical teaching Experience with collaborator engagement and interactions (e.g., opinion leaders, advocacy groups, payers) Familiarity with global regulatory organizations, guidelines, and practices Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP), GxP, and global regulations and guidelines Knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization processes, including but not limited to, clinical operations, commercial, regulatory, and medical affairs Qualified in Risk management History of solving problems while exhibiting sound scientific/medical judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues In-depth understanding of the scientific method and clinical applications based on medical, scientific, and practical rationale Track record of success working with cross-functional teams MSL field experience is a plus Thrive What you can expect of us As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates professional and personal growth and well-being.
