Position description

The Edward Garon Lab in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking applicants for Project Scientist positions at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank. The candidates will perform collaborative research on biomedical informatics and computational biology in lung cancer. This position requires a Ph.D. and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in biomedical research. This is a 12-month position which may be renewed.

General responsibilities:
Develop concepts, identify mechanisms, and perform biomedical informatics and computational biology as it relates to the pathogenesis of lung cancer, prepare high-impact publications and assist with grant preparation.

Required skills:
* 5 years research experience in biomedical informatics, computational biology and/or systems biology
* Documented experience in working with large data sets such as DNA and RNA sequencing
* Documented ability to work in a collaborative environment
* Documented ability to train, advice and supervise research personnel

Specific responsibilities:
* Report directly to the Principal Investigator.
* Carry out analysis related to large data sets
* Supervise undergraduates, graduate students and new postdoctoral trainees in the laboratory.
* Work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
* Assist with preparation of grant proposals.
* Deliver effective presentations and participate actively in weekly team meetings.
* Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
* Communicate effectively with other scientists both at UCLA and other institutions.
* Maintain or organize critical databases.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Ph.D. is required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in biomedical research is required.
