– HIM: Lab ScanningStatus: Full timeBenefits Eligible:YesHours Per Week:40Schedule Details/Additional Information:8-4:30 Monday through Friday Remote position with some occasional driving to AAH site if neededMajor Responsibilities:Oversees all department functions to ensure timely completion of work.

Provides day-to-day work direction, monitors timecards, and tracks productivity.

Conducts staff huddles, new team member orientation, and training.

Advises and updates team members procedural changes and completes projects as assigned by management, troubleshoots and provides guidance and expertise on complex issues.Performs quality reviews to ensure accuracy of lab data abstraction and documentation scanning according to established procedures.

Reviews the accuracy of the identification and creation of the appropriate laboratory tests by applying knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory nomenclature.

Ensures the correct order templates, data entry, individual components, comments, footnotes, performing laboratory name and address, collection date and time, units of measure, reference ranges, abbreviations, symbols, alerts and route to clinician are accurately entered.

Ensures laboratory values are accurately entered and flagged to promptly alert patients and clinicians regarding normal and abnormal results.Performs documentation and tracking of quality reviews.

Provides timely feedback to leader and team member, providing additional education and retraining as needed.

Makes corrections according to department procedures.

Assists leadership with privacy investigations.Assists leadership in the development, implementation, and improvement of policies, procedures and processes.

Provides timely updates to leadership regarding projects, team member issues, HIT updates, and system issues.

Uses critical thinking to evaluate and determine the appropriate process for entering new or questionable lab results.

Uses strong communication and critical thinking skills to identify, investigate, and escalates issues as needed.Acts as subject matter expert, partners with HIT for lab software testing and upgrades.

Troubleshoots computer system issues, submits requests via the Service Now, and educates team members on system enhancements.Analyzes content of laboratory result documents to ensure documentation follows guidelines established by Wisconsin Collaborative for Health Care Quality (WCHQ), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and all other applicable policies and/or regulations, advising physicians, leadership, and staff on specific issues or changes as they occur.Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:Health Information Technician (RHIT) registration issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), orMedical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), orMedical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), orMedical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), orEducation Required:Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or related field.Experience Required:Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care experience that includes use of medical terminology, human anatomy, and the core elements of health information or requires advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in health information or laboratory science.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.Proficient computer and keyboarding skills with the ability to learn new computer software systems such as Epic, Extract LabDE, OnBase, Microsoft 365 and legacy archivesStrong customer service, interpersonal and communication service skills.High attention to detail and accuracy with frequent interruptions.Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with time constraints.Works collaboratively in a diverse team environment with openness and respect to learn, create and problem solve.Ability to learn when receiving constructive feedback by leadership or peers and taking personal ownership for success.Ability to proficiently operate all equipment necessary to do the job: fax, multi-phone line, scanner, copy machine, etc.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Requires team member to walk a moderate/significant distance throughout medical center to retrieve records.

May require the ability to push/pull a records cart.Ability to perform repetitive functions and hand movements in a normal office environment.Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and transition to switching tasks without issue while maintaining quality and accuracy.Ability to safeguard protected health information (PHI) and possesses basic knowledge of HIPAA.Must be able to sit, stand, twist/rotate for prolonged periods of time in order to complete required job duties.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
