Executive Director

Our goal is that Watts Learning Center will be a world-class, child-centered K-8 Institution of Learning with strong ties to families and the community. The Watts Learning Center will produce high academic achievers who are self-confident, ethical, and motivated to be lifelong learners. The Executive Director is responsible for the organizational health and academic achievement of both Watts Learning Center campuses, including managing our School Directors, cultivating positive and high performing organizational culture and working closely with the WLC Board of Directors. As part of our organizational values, we are engaged in the process of making the ‘Watts Learning Center Way.’ Fundamental to the Watts Learning Center Way is the basic premise that every child in our schools is known and understood, valued, and respected as an independent thinking person. The Executive Director has the following primary responsibilities: Organization Vision and Direction Oversee the development and execution of each school’s strategic plan in pursuit of WLC’s mission and ensure key targets are met, including organizational health, fiduciary compliance and academic achievement. Collaborate with the WLC board to create and pursue a rigorous plan for WLC’s campuses. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with neighborhood stakeholders and community organizations, and support collaboration with local education-related partnerships. Set and pursue a rigorous vision for staff development, performance management and positive adult culture for the organization. People Management & Team Leadership Manage a leadership team including both School Directors and Operations Director. Supervise and coach School Directors and other school-based staff, including but not limited to: Develop the ability of School Directors and their instructional leadership teams to develop, implement and monitor a strategic plan that supports student achievement. Engage in continuous improvement cycles, including reviewing and analyzing data to monitor overall school improvement. Provide frequent, actionable feedback to assist School Directors and their leadership teams in improving their leadership practice and achieving better results with a sense of urgency. Create and pursue vision for attracting and retaining high quality talent, including attaining high levels of staff satisfaction. School and Organizational Operations Own and manage WLC’s overall budget, including reporting, compliance and supporting school-based budget decisions. Ensure a positive and welcoming environment for all stakeholders, including: Supporting a robust vision and action plan for parent and family engagement. Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure that schools are receiving necessary instructional support and that priorities are being fully executed on each campus. Who Are You? 2-4 years of experience serving as a School Leader in a high-performing charter or district environment, with strong student achievement results required. Prior experience working in K-8 preferred. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Education or related field is strongly preferred. Prior experience with LAUSD’s charter infrastructure or equivalent context preferred. Compensation The salary band for this role begins at $170,000, with a robust benefits package.
