Programs Description This position directly aligns equity initiatives with the ACPS Strategic Plan 2025’s vision, mission and core values to support the goal of Equity for All.

The director will work in collaboration with the Office of Equity team members to plan, implement and evaluate the division’s equity and anti-racism initiatives and instructional practices.

The Director of Equitable Practices works in the Department of Student Services and Equity (DSSE) under the direction of the Executive Director of Equity and Alternative Program and in collaboration with the DSSE staff.

The Director of Equitable Practices will be responsible for coordinating equity initiatives and providing direct support, supervision, accountability and coaching to schools and departments in addition to community partnerships.

The primary areas of responsibility include, and are not limited to, supporting systemic change that will engage, ignite and inspire students through advocacy, resources dissemination, advising, mentoring and professional learning for staff representing each level of the organization with the goal eliminating policies and practices that result in disparate outcomes for students and families served by Alexandria City Public Schools.

This position will provide supervision and oversight to the Equity and Inclusion Specialist, and collaborate with school and department based administrators to review the work of school-based equity liaisons and equity teams.

The Director of Equitable Practices will report directly to the Executive Director of Equity and Alternative Programs.

Qualifications Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school administration, school leadership, urban education or related field required .

Diversity, equity and inclusion training and certifications preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive, hands-on management experience within public schools; experiences in school administration and central office management; knowledge of city agencies; experience working in an urban school division; and a strong knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of education and equity policy Experience organizing and leading division-wide equity training initiatives Demonstrated facilitation skills Knowledge of social, emotional and academic learning (SEAL) Demonstrated ability to analyze data and provide alternative solutions to technical and adaptive challenges Ability to implement continuous improvement Knowledge of community agencies and business that support equity Demonstrated leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational management Proven analytical skills Ability to assess policies and practices which promote culturally responsive and equitable environments for students and staff Experience in budget analysis and preparation Essential Functions Collaborates with the Office of Equity staff including the Mental Health Specialist, PBIS Coordinator, Practices Coordinator Equity Coordinator and Equity Specialist.

Support the development and implementation of continuous data collection, analysis and appropriate metrics that provide continuous assessment of programs and initiatives effectiveness and impact.

Collaborates with and/or supports personnel assigned to schools, other offices, departments and non school agencies to accomplish the division’s vision, mission and core values.

Provides/coordinates professional learning for ACPS staff and community.

Oversees the implementation of equity initiatives including, but not limited to Equity Audit of School Board Policies, site-based professional learning, leadership professional learning and development, facilitation training.

Supports and collaborates with external partners to develop and implement equity focused policies, practices, and processes.

Develops and implements collaborative partnerships with central office staff to support equity focused work.

Collaborates to design division equity plan aligned to the ACPS Strategic Plan goals and key performance indicators Promotes and facilitates positive communications among various constituents within ACPS Promotes and facilitates positive communications among the Alexandria City community.

Allocates resources and coordinates program implementation within the division.

Demonstrates appropriate fiscal management of funds.

Serves on various local and division committees to thatproote equitable practices within education Develops and facilitates equity focused programs and events for students, families communities central office staff and ACPS employees.

Revises and maintains division-wide multi-year equity professional learning plans Performs related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Equity and Alternative Programs and the Chief of Student Services and Equity.
