Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Distribution and Transportation Manager, the Production Associate is responsible for processing of donated goods for sale.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspect and sort goods received from donors according to predetermined criteria.
  • Discard unsellable items.
  • Set aside items for recycling.
  • Set the pace for sorting and work with volunteers and guests assigned at the Distribution Center.
  • Record production numbers daily (gaylords, units, etc.).
  • Communicate regularly with management about production issues.
  • Able to interact with volunteers in a cheerful and encouraging manner.
  • Able to encourage potential individuals and groups to volunteer at the distribution center.
  • Ensure physical maintenance, cleanliness and attractiveness of production area.
  • Maintain safety as well as all health and security policies and procedures.
  • Carry out other tasks and projects as assigned by the Distribution and Transportation Manager.
  • Commitment to URM mission, vision and core values.
  • Encourage guests of their faith and growth in Jesus Christ.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Requires manual dexterity for regular repetitive finger motion and frequently reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting of objects and operating equipment.
  • Requires manual ability to operate a pallet jack.
  • Certified forklift operator or able to operate a forklift, a plus.
  • May be exposed to handling hazardous materials such as broken glass.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   • The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated.
  • Noise levels are considered low to moderate.
  • This position works predominantly indoors in a store, warehouse or dock environment all of which are high traffic settings involving people, equipment and/or machinery.
  • The area is generally clean, orderly, properly lighted, ventilated and does have constant foot traffic from employees, volunteers, vendors and visitors.
  • May be exposed to dust in the performance of certain duties.

Requirements:

Experience/Education/Licensures/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of retail production experience, preferably as a sorter.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace.
  • Must have the ability to determine value of donations.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Must have strong organization skills.
  • Must have strong time management skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task in a high volume environment.
  • Must be able to be an effective team member.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (email).
  • Proficient in inventory control and systems a plus.
