Research Associate – English Learners

Overview AIR is currently seeking a Research Associate to join our Learning Supports Program Area within AIR’s Human Services Division to aid us with improving outcomes in Education.

We are looking for a Research Associate to support mixed-methods evaluation projects, with a specific emphasis on projects focused on English Learners (ELs) related policies and practices.

Candidates will have the option to work remotely or from one of our domestic office locations.

Responsibilities The responsibilities for the position include: Conduct literature reviews to support projects and proposals Assist staff in the review, identification and development of scholarly information describing research findings Assist in qualitative and/or quantitative data collection such as development of interview protocol and surveys; supporting participant recruitment; conducting interviews and notetaking; supporting survey data collection Clean, code, and analyze data from survey data, interviews, observations, and extant data using the appropriate scientific approaches and software (e.g., NVivo, STATA, R, or SPSS).

Prepare documents, portions of reports, briefs, charts, and graphs that describe and interpret findings of analyses Assist with the development and writing of new professional learning and implementation tools and resources Communicate effectively, orally or in writing, with clients, staff, and other stakeholders.

Support direct technical assistance (TA) with states and districts through both virtual and in-person meetings Support communication and marketing tasks such as writing newsletters, blog posts, and website content Support planning and implementation of national and/or project meetings and events Provide managerial support on projects Provide new business and proposal development support by engaging in such tasks as researching funding opportunities, conducting literature reviews, coordinating proposals, and writing proposal sections Qualifications Education, Knowledge, and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of experience or Master’s degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, public health or other social science related fields Experience with and/or knowledge of data collection and analysis methodologies and techniques, such as survey design, analysis of program administrative data, and conduct of structured interviews, observations, and focus groups Experience with or inclination to learn and use statistical software programs such as R, SPSS, or Stata to analyze data
– a plus (not required) Experience working in schools or experience within an organization supporting technical assistance (TA) projects (e.g., coordinating large streams of work, collecting and analyzing data, developing resources) Experience translating research into practice for diverse stakeholder audiences in both virtual and in-person settings.

Experience with communicating across broad and diverse stakeholder audiences through a variety of communication means Skills: Excellent organization and time management Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy when writing Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software) Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds Effective communicator in a virtual/dispersed work environment Bilingual or multilingual, preferred but not required Disclosures: AIR requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a legally required exemption from AIR, as a condition of employment.
