Director, Internal Communications

The Director of Internal Communications will be responsible for developing and executing strategies for communicating with Oak View Group’s 25,000 employees across all divisions globally. Reporting to the SVP, Global Communications, Marketing & Events, the Director of Internal Communications will support the implementation of strategies that inspire and inform OVG’s global employee base and drive the company’s business objectives through digital storytelling and brand management for internal audiences. As a key member of OVG’s Communications team, the Director of Internal Communications will be responsible for developing communications on traditional and digital media platforms designed to showcase the company’s major initiatives, talented employees and high-profile events at all of our venues.
Core Responsibilities
Drive open and regular communication with employees through multiple channels, such as employee e-newsletters, leadership updates, organizational announcements, departmental updates, company intranet, and periodic company town hall meetings.
Partner with the Human Resources team to develop engaging and impactful internal communications programs that support OVG’s employee benefits, performance management, training and development, and employee engagement programs.
Work with senior management to evaluate and manage rebranding and redevelopment of companywide internal communications.
Craft strategies for major initiatives, such as annual Benefits Open Enrollment and Diversity Equity & Inclusion.
Support crisis communications efforts, as needed, by developing internal communications with aligned and consistent messaging.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, collaborator and consensus builder- verbally, visually and in writing and a source of creative ideas. The Director of Internal Communications must also be knowledgeable about internal communication platforms. The ideal candidate is flexible to the changing needs of the business, strategic and creative, works well both in a collaborative setting and individually, quickly establishes credibility, accepts new challenges, and embraces processes and deadlines.
Day to day, the successful candidate will excel in the following areas:
Strong and versatile writing skills
Planning and implementing short- and long-term internal communications strategies
Ability to write in various leaders’ voices and styles
Work closely with External Communications on critical initiatives or crises
Experience supporting Executive Communications as needed
Display confidence and expertise when working with senior executives
Writing, formatting and distributing OVG’s internal newsletter
Managing Communications platforms including SharePoint, Bananatag, Campaign Monitor and MailChimp
Supporting key Human Resources communications
Support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs
Strong writer and verbal communicator
Ability to work independently and collaborate within a larger team environment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, or comparable discipline
8+ years’ experience in internal communications or related field preferred
Superior written communications skills and exceptional attention to detail
Knowledge of the sports and entertainment industries is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Apple Keynote
Proficiency in Adobe design programs, including Photoshop and Premier Pro, a plus
Proven experience in developing strategic, consistent and creative messaging
A solution-oriented mindset, positivity, optimism and high energy
Track record of monitoring and analyzing effectiveness of internal communications activities and reevaluating/pivoting
Proven collaborator with ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups .
Comfort and familiarity within a fast-paced environment
History of building strong relationships with leadership and/or departmental liaisons
Organized with strong project management skills
An ability to anticipate needs around internal messaging
Familiarity with and experience in supporting change management practices
Producing regular companywide live or recorded broadcasts and town hall meetings
Experience with digital storytelling including podcasts, and experience with multimedia applications such as Premier Pro, Photoshop, etc.
Experience supporting employee recognition programs
Experience working with a creative services team to produce visual materials and digital projects
