We are seeking a Propulsion Test Engineer to join our facility located at Culpeper, Virginia.

Test engineers work with customers, program managers and project engineers to define test objectives and identify and select test methods and instrumentation.

They then create plans and procedures for safely conducting these tests, utilizing existing test facilities and equipment, and/or designing new tools or techniques.

Test engineers tackle a variety of problems and use a wide range of engineering skills, from mechanical and aerospace to electrical and software.

Types of tests include direct-connect ramjet/scramjet testing, aeroheat material testing, static rocket motor firings, case proof and burst pressure testing, case structural loads testing, direct-connect ramjet/scramjet testing, aeroheat material testing, and dynamic/environmental testing.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each): 40%
– Plan, devise and prepare test methods, instrumentation and tooling, applying extensive testing technical expertise.

Interface with Design/Project Engineering to develop/interpret test requirements.

Work with Quality and Safety to ensure test methods meet customer and government requirements/regulations.

Identify/specify facility configurations to meet test requirements.

Design test fixtures or identify existing test tooling to interface with test articles.

30%
– Conduct, oversee and support test operations in accordance with safety and quality policy and procedures, maintaining overall technical control of test programs.

May include physical/mechanical hardware setup, instrumentation calibration and setup, electrical/controls setup, test article prep, control software input preparation, etc.

May include directing subcontractors in their execution of subcontracted test programs at off-site test facilities.

– Prepare technical documentation, including test procedures, safety reviews and test readiness reviews.

– Manage cost and schedule for test programs.

Coordinate cost and schedule planning/estimates.

Requirements: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline, along with at least 2 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Related work experience involving pressure, fluid, thermal and/or mechanical systems is preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; strength in teaming and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S.

Security Clearance at the appropriate level.

Requires U.S.

Citizenship.

Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e.

ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.

Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.

While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc.

requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e.

steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection.

Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.

Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations.

Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto.

Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary.

This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
