Job Title: Mechanical DesignerLocation: 90 Nemco Way Ayer MA 01432 Duration: 7 MonthsJob DescriptionMajor purpose: Works as a member of the Mechanical Engineering Design Team to create designs, layouts, prototypes, drawings and documentation for electronics racks intended for Naval shipboard use.
Uses Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo) to generate detailed design drawings and documentation for sheet metal, enclosures, equipment panels and electromechanical assemblies.
Creates EBOMs (Engineering Bill of Materials) and assembly Work Instructions.Major functions: Interprets customer specifications to define requirements for mechanical designs.Uses Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD system to create mechanical layouts and drawings.Designs mechanical and electromechanical assemblies using design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA) principles.Develops detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, performs tolerances analysis, design studies and trade studies.Generates mechanical drawings for use in sheet metal, machining and welding operations.Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, raw materials, processes and other physical sciences to complete drawings.Specifies mechanical components, standards and mechanical best practices.Troubleshoots and resolves mechanical manufacturing and assembly failures.Support testing, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electromechanical equipment.Generates project cost estimates and maintains project budgets and schedule.Generates engineering design change orders and reviews the work of peers.Uses established and well defined engineering procedures.Able to work simultaneously on a variety of projects.Travel and work off-site at another location may be required.Education/Experience/Licenses etc.: Requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experienceAssociates degree in drafting or Mechanical Design (preferred)Minimum of 6 years of experience using Creo CAD software for electromechanical designs and electronic enclosures.Proficiency with MS Office.Knowledge of Military Specifications preferred.
