Complex Litigation Attorney

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a litigation attorney for engagement through the Firm’s contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge.

This contract attorney position works with the complex business group on litigation and pre-litigation matters.

Attorneys must be able to travel to the Firm’s office in Los Angeles, CA.

Attorneys who have significant litigation experience, who have practiced at medium/large law firms and who are seeking more work flexibility are encouraged to apply.

Candidates can expect to work closely with DWT attorneys, as part of a collaborative team, providing high-value legal services to the Firm’s clients.

This contract position will provide remote, part-time support to the Firm’s associates and counsel on active briefing, discovery, and trial/arbitration matters.

While the contract engagement is for an initial 6-month term, candidates who are successful in this position may be renewed for additional terms.

We anticipate the work to remain relatively steady and forecast needing a dedicated resource to handle, at minimum, 20-25 hours/week of discovery, research, and general litigation support.

The selected resource will be responsible for collecting and reviewing incoming/outgoing documents, producing written discovery, providing assistance with discovery negotiations, discovery motions, motion summary judgements, class certification preparation, meet and confers, and discovery strategy.

We are looking for someone that can seamlessly work with our attorneys and staff to meet discrete litigation objectives under short deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have: 5+ years of litigation experience in a mid-to-large law firm or in-house legal setting.

Experience interviewing and interfacing directly with client contacts at major corporations is preferred.

Admission to practice in CA.

Demonstrated success performing legal research, drafting research memoranda, and briefing is a plus.

Availability to work a minimum of 20 – 25 hours per week, and flexibility for more hours if need on occasion.

Work can be on a remote basis, but candidates should have flexibility to attend occasional in-person and in-office meetings when needed.

Strong client service abilities, client relationship-building skills, and an ability to understand the business priorities of different client teams.

Confidence managing and prioritizing discrete litigation objectives under tight deadlines.

Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.

Demonstrated success working on both high volume programmatic legal matters and high-impact strategic complex litigation.

Please note that this is a contract position managed by DWT’s flexible contract attorney program, DWTSurge.

The position is non-benefitted, and compensation will be on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level.

We are interested in candidates who are electing to pursue a more flexible way of providing continuous, high-value legal services to the firm and our clients.

If you are interested in a more traditional law firm position, please check the DWT careers page for lateral opportunities.
