SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

JOB SUMMARY:

Our client is a Non-Profit organization that is committed to developing and sustaining programs that address the special needs of the underserved community in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing accounting team. Under the direction of the Director of Finance and CFO, the Senior Accountant will assist in the development of the annual operating budget and monitor government and private funded programs to ensure fiscal contract compliance. In addition, this position will be performing the accounting and finance functions for assigned government grants for our client.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assist the Director of Finance in the revenue cycle process including monthly payment reconciliations and variance analyses.
  2. Prepare monthly financial reports for programs, stakeholders and/or Board.
  3. Responsible for bank reconciliations and cash flow analyses.
  4. Administer asset management and inventory control.
  5. Responsible for submitting month end billing summaries to government and private funding sources.
  6. Full knowledge of Accounts Payable cycle is a must as a backup of A/P Specialist
  7. Will assist with month-end close, which includes allocation of expenditures to contracts, reconciling grants receivables, and updating revenue and expense roll forward schedules.
  8. Assist with preparing adjusting journal entries to general ledger.
  9. Assist with preparation of agency annual operating budget and forecast, which includes uploading final budget into Abila software.
  10. Assist the Director of Finance and CFO with developing financial reports and/or financial dashboards.
  11. Assist Program Directors and Fund Development staff with budgets for grant proposals.
  12. Monitor grant budgets and prepare budget modifications as needed.
  13. Prepare expenditure reports due to government agencies and foundations.
  14. Prepare program analysis reports for Program Directors and Director of Finance.
  15. Meets with and presents to leadership and staff regarding department (and possibly external stakeholders) regarding financial performance and trends to ensure alignment to target.
  16. Performs periodic review of all back up documents for all invoices submitted to the funders to ensure all controls are in place to be free of all audit findings.
  17. Provide all census reports as required by different funders.
  18. Other duties as assigned and ad hoc projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience
  2. Experience with government contracts and grants (preferred)
  3. Must possess working knowledge of general ledger transactions and complete account reconciliations.
  4. Must have extensive budgeting experience as it relates to budget preparation, reporting, monitoring and allocation of shared cost
  5. Must have computer skills including spreadsheet application (Microsoft Excel).
  6. Experience in MIP Abila Financial software highly preferred.
  7. Must be detail oriented and be able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  8. Must have good interpersonal skills across all levels including co-workers.
  9. Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  10. Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.

Salary Range for Senior Accountant role: $75,000 – $85,000 annually (based on experience)
