Project Engineer – Electric Utility

The Project Engineer will assist Project Managers with all aspects of electric utility substation and/or transmission projects.

Assisting during: initial scoping, preliminary and detailed design; acquisition of materials, permits and land rights; assisting with changes during construction; assisting with collecting and electronically storing all documentation through the project.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to assist with the development of work scope, budget, schedule and resources
  • Prepare and/or design construction estimates for conceptual analyses, budgeting or cash flow requirements.
  • Coordinate submittals and approvals of Permits, Environmental, Engineering reviews
  • Provide support for public hearings
  • Works with project team and stakeholders for all project related duties
  • Assists departmental personnel in completion of their planning work.
  • Keeps track of project schedule to ensure project is executed in a timely manner
  • Assists with the documentation reconciliation of job packages.
  • Filing and organizing project files into company electronic documentation systems
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings
  • Assist with RFP process
  • Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings.
  • Applies basic knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
  • Assists with research and complies project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Assists with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
  • Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for substation projects.
  • Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
  • Understands project scope, cost, and schedule
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems
  • Review design drawings for constructability, design and accuracy at 30%, 60%, 90% and 95% design levels
  • Work with Project Manager to select special design options
  • Oversees drawings produced by others
  • Supports client meetings with stakeholders and vendors
  • Keeps track of project schedule to ensure project is executed in a timely manner
  • Coordinates with project team to mitigate risks associated with project
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree
  • 2 to 10 years Experience with assisting Project Managers on electric utility transmission and/or substation projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Full-time On-Site
