Role Responsibilities
Sources, selects, and qualifies components used in the company’s technology
Investigates alternate component technologies or supplies, reducing cost and improving quality and reliability
Acts as technical interface between component/production suppliers and development engineers, determining new and alternate sources
Investigates alternate component technologies or supplies for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability, and implements changes
Develops guidelines/procedures on vendor selection
Evaluates supplier change notification and qualifies changes, as needed
Will maintain component data management system including qualification records/results/documentation.
Will ensure specific parts used in manufactured products and systems are reliable and effective
Will be involved in all design phases: production, research & development, compliance, and design stages of manufacturing
Will be responsible for overseeing any necessary testing
May require up to 20% travel
Lead and take ownership for the evolution part selection, including the selection of EE and ME parts and evaluation of commercial EE/ME parts in high reliability applications
Lead EE/ME piece part failure investigations during lot testing, environment testing, and failures in the field
Serve as an essential team member within the Hardware Engineering Group as the Subject Matter Expert for piece parts (COTS)
– focusing on EE/ME piece part selection, defining and reviewing EE/ME part qualifications and lot testing plans (parts control plans), and evaluating EE/ME part changes/deviations
Maintain the CAD library within SolidWorks PDM
Maintain the Arena part information data accuracy
Work closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and other Engineering Teams
Will find alternate components for discontinued/obsolete components
Will be the focal point for creating new parts within Arena
Experience & Skills Required
BS/BA degree in Engineering or Physics
Component engineer should have a basic understanding of manufacturing mechanical and electrical systems within the auto industry.
