Surgical Technologist I (Non-Certified)

Sign On Bonus: Surgical Techs (.9 and above) are eligible for a $3,000 (.9 and above) and $1,500 (0.5-.8) sign on bonus payable upon hire.

This bonus is eligible to newly hired external applicants (current AAH Team Members are not eligible at this time).

Schedule: Full-time, M-F, 11a-7p, mandatory call Position Requirements: High school graduate or GED Graduate of a Scrub Technician program or 12 years experience in an operating room with skills competencies in general,gyne,ortho surgery Good communication skills.

Ability to independently perform scrub duties Certification as a certified scrub tech within two years of hire date May be exposed to hazardous materials and lifethreatening disease and radiation This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated.

Ability to perform heavy lifting (lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 or 50 pounds frequently and/or lifting 10 to 20 pounds constantly.) Ability to stand for 8 hours Ability to cooperate and work well with others Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.

Ability to work designated shifts including weekends and holidays Ability to assume oncall responsibility per department guidelines ability to work as a team member in a high stress environment.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a casebycase basis.

Purpose: The scrub person maintains aseptic technique throughout the operative procedure, anticipating and supplying the surgical team with sterile supplies and instruments Assist the surgeon by passing/preparing needed supplies, instruments and equipment.

The Surgical Technician maintains the integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.

The scrub technician shall remain scrubbed in at all times while the patient is in the room.

If the setup is completed and all counts are done and there is a delay in the case over 10 minutes, the scrub technician may break scrub and assist the circulator if approved by the RN circulator responsible for the OR.

Accountabilities: Participates in an environment within the practice team that supports management philosophy, IMMC strategic plans and Advocate Healthcare strategies.

To assist in providing quality patient care in a manner which is patientfocused, technically appropriate, and cost effective.

The Surgical Technologist (ST) works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the Standards of Practice and within the guidelines of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.

The ST is responsible for establishing and maintaining a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment as required for the operative procedure.

The ST functions as a cooperative health care team member in a critical care environment treating the patient in a holistic manner with dignity and respect.

Demonstrates customer satisfaction skills within the department and hospital as defined by the Advocate’s System’s goals.

Establishment and achievement of selfdevelopment objectives and continued advancement of the practice team.

Contributes to the surgical services, department and hospital innovation efforts to maximize excellence and build respect for services Participates in the implementation of strategies to increase productivity Contributes to cost containment and business growth initiatives of the unit/department Room Efficiencies
