In the role of Resident Service Engineer, you will lead commissioning for a range of complex products/services in Energy Solutions, Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN), facilitating continuous improvement, and overseeing design changes and the creation of project documentation.
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the 800xA Human Machine Interface (HMI) and S800 Input / Output Control (I/O) at the customer facility. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of proprietary ABB hardware and software, as well as assisting with any projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced services. This individual will be required to work independently or as part of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB distributed control solutions.
Your responsibilities
- Perform site operations that may involve unusual problems requiring strong technical skills. Construct prototype models, as requested
- Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures. Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying own knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs
- Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non standard schedules at site with exposure to varying environmental conditions
- Accurately document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Professionally document work completed on periodic preventive maintenance as well as intermittent corrective maintenance tasks. Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Your background
- Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree (preferably in Engineering) and minimum 10 to 15 years of professional work experience; OR
- Minimum 15 years of experience in similar field or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments
- Candidates must know how to trouble shoot and install Distributed control system (DCS) systems, knowledge of ABB’s 800xA is required
- Under general supervision, perform a variety of moderately complex technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, test or repair of company products and equipment
- Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments
- Guide less experienced technicians and suggest measures to improve operations and customer service
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
