Description: The Senior Managing Accountant focuses on the core work of evaluating, supporting and renewing funding for special programs that are in alliance with the overall mission. The Senior Managing Accountant will develop improved tools, processes and approaches to ensure that client fulfills the requirements related to operating special programs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide fiscal oversight and guidance.
- Gain a thorough working knowledge of all restricted support arrangements, including local, state, and federal grants, in order to ensure that all reporting requirements and other terms of the agreements are met.
- Support the Executive Director in responding to inquiries related to the special requests, stakeholders and funds/grants.
- Determine classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to the special programs, and prepare journal entries to classify certain revenues and expenses as related to special programs.
- Coordinate and monitor compliance with the charters, federal, state, and WCIL’s obligations as they relate to special programs.
- Coordinate and assist in development of budgets for special programs and grants. Work closely with program managers to meet the budgets.
- Ensure data is submitted in a timely manner to secure funding (upfront data input, and cash reports).
- Prepare expense reports and submit reimbursement claims for special programs.
- Coordinate timesheet completion and collection process to ensure that time accounting responsibilities are met for special programs.
- Prepare documentation for and complete tasks associated with annual audit, working WCIL’s auditor.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and overcome system obstacles to program success, come up with detailed and tested methods to improve / erase said obstacles and expedite tracking and oversight.
- Must have experience creating in-depth budgets, and tracking budget to actual performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance or related field
- Minimum 1 year public accounting experience auditing financial statements
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
- CPA, CMA or MBA is a plus
- Experience in education, non-profits, government, or grants management is a plus
- Experience preparing journal entries is required
- Experience with MIP
- Considerable knowledge and/or interest in the nonprofit industry
